Meet Connie Spears - Fantasy Board Member

Fantasy is a big family. They welcome everybody. There’s always a place for you at Fantasy.
— Connie Spears

Connie Spears’ was introduced to the magic of Fantasy Playhouse and theater in 1969, while her father was serving overseas in Vietnam. She attended her first performance at Fantasy Playhouse with her mother. What began as a simple night out at the theater became something that she would carry with her going forward. In the midst of a difficult time the magic of live theater offered something to Connie. Imagination, Story-telling, and the importance of live performance.

For Connie, it was an experience that stayed with her long after the curtain fell. From then on Connie has been an advocate for the arts and children. Dedicating her life to bringing that magic to all children. Connie understands that theater is more than just that entertains. For young audiences, it can be the impetus for creativity, empathy, and a willingness to go beyond comfort zones. Over the years, Connie has remained deeply connected to the arts community and has become one of its most dedicated supporters. Her belief in the importance of live performance for children. She recognizes that access to the arts is not simply a luxury but an important part of a child’s development, offering opportunities for expression, learning, and confidence-building. Connie now serves as a member of the Fantasy Playhouse Board, where she helps guide the organization that first inspired her decades ago. In many ways, her involvement has come full circle. The same theater that sparked her imagination as a young audience member is now a place she helps support and sustain for new generations of children. Through her work with Fantasy Playhouse, Connie helps ensure that thousands of young people continue to experience the magic of live theater just as she once did. Connie’s commitment to young people extends beyond the stage as well. As a member of the Madison County School Board, she plays an active role in shaping educational opportunities for students throughout the community. Her work reflects the same values that have guided her involvement in the arts: a belief that children deserve enriching experiences, strong support systems, and opportunities to grow into thoughtful, creative individuals. Throughout her life, Connie Spears has remained guided by a simple but powerful belief: that the experiences we give children matter. Whether through education or the arts, those experiences help shape how they see the world and their place within it. For Connie, that belief began in a theater seat in 1969. Decades later, she continues to give back to the very community that once gave her a moment of wonder, ensuring that the magic of live performance remains a lasting part of childhood for generations to come.
