Special Events

Theater for Young Audiences

  • Fantasy is excited to offer field trips and public performances of a bold Shakespearean adventure for our older middle school and high school audiences. Featuring our very own professional theatre company of Alabama A&M actors, Shakespeare in Love & War delivers epic love scenes and thrilling sword fights — from the moonlit balcony of Romeo and Juliet to the fiery clashes of Macbeth. Bold, passionate, and swashbuckling, this unforgettable experience is perfectly built for the classroom. Because it’s the Bard, we rate this production PG, and recommend it for teen audiences.

  • This Fantasy Jr. approved twist on our holiday ghost story introduces younger audiences to Dickens’ timeless tale with extra heart and a little less “boo!” Performed on the beautifully transformed set of our Mainstage production at the VBC Playhouse, this story told by a smaller-cast (and puppets!) features music, dance, and comedy to make the classic ghost story a little more merry and not so scary. It’s the perfect first step into the world of Scrooge, spirits, and second chances for our youngest theatergoers.

  • Get ready to groove and learn! Schoolhouse Funk is our fresh, high-energy spin on the classic Saturday morning cartoon vibe — a brand-new song cycle celebrating foundational Black Americans who shaped our nation. From brilliant inventors and bold civil rights leaders to groundbreaking artists and cultural changemakers, this joyful musical journey honors the innovation, resilience, and creativity that built American culture.

Brought to life by the powerhouse musicians of the renowned Bulldog Beat Band — Alabama A&M University’s musical touring ensemble — Schoolhouse Funk is smart, soulful, and full of rhythm, celebrating Black joy and Black excellence with every beat.

  • When a tiny blue engine agrees to pull a heavy train over the hill, she proves that determination and a positive attitude can make the impossible possible. With colorful puppetry, lively music, and joyful movement, this visually exciting production is perfect for preschool and elementary audiences — a sweet reminder that “I think I can” goes a long way.
